Everybody Have Fun Tonight - Wang Chung x The Chicago Bears

“I’m having fun” is not a phrase I thought I would ever use to describe watching a season of Chicago Bears football.  After a disastrous rookie season for Caleb, dealing with the biggest dunce of a head coach, to how this season started; I just would not have imagined I’d be enjoying this season of Bears football.  That regardless of losing to the 49er’s near the end of the season, I’d walk away with a smile telling everyone “that was fun, I’m having fun”.

Before the Bears end the season against the Lions, I just want to say I’m proud of this team.  Yes it is an absolute cornball move from a 30 year old to be proud of his favorite professional athletes.  No, this blog does not have any national appeal that might garner the attention of Bears players.  I’m talking into my reflection in the water here, yelling into the woods.  Despite this, what I’ve witnessed is a rag-tag group of guys with different backgrounds come into a laughing stock of a franchise and build something from it with their blood, sweat, and tears.  This country was founded on the ideals of making something out of nothing.  The Bears had made one hell of a team out of a historical “nothing”.

I’m not going to break down the plays from the niners game.  There’s no need to.  Go watch a QB School video or a Harrison Graham re-cap.  Those guys do a hell of job in their respective fields.  Besides, what is there to say?  Caleb had a low completion percentage during the San Fran game?  Who the hell cares??  He got into a shootout with a team that is projected to go to the Super Bowl.  He was one slightly better throw away from winning the game.  I don’t give a rat’s ass what his completion percentage was or how many yards we ran the ball.  If you honestly care that much about that, did you even watch that game?  Good God I was leaping out of my seat at the bar every other play!  This was a hugging strangers game!

This team has cinched a playoff spot.  This team is number one in the NFC north.  I don’t care what happens against the Lions (except injuries knock on wood).  We could exit the playoffs early (KNOCK ON WOOD).  I’m damn proud of this team and what they and coach Ben Johnson have built.  I’m excited to have some more fun.
